Jeff Bruce is the author of Don’t Call Me Alice, which recounts the misadventures of Alice Guthrie, his former colleague at the Phoenix Daily Sun. When he’s not working with his writing partner Guthrie, Jeff serves as the journalist in residence at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where he teaches mass media writing, editing and feature writing courses. He recently retired as the editor of the Dayton Daily News and editor-in-chief of Cox Ohio Publishing. During his 30-year newspaper career, Jeff was editor of the Tribune Newspapers in suburban Phoenix and the Longview (Texas) News Journal. He was managing editor of the Austin American-Statesman and he held various editing and reporting positions at the Miami Herald, the Palm Beach Post, the St. Petersburg Times and the Tampa Times. He also served as press secretary to a Florida congressman. Jeff holds a Master of Arts degree from Antioch University Midwest in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and a bachelor’s degree from St. Edward’s University in Austin. He also did undergraduate work at the University of South Florida. He is a member of various professional organizations including the American Society of News Editors and Investigative Reporters and Editors. He has served as a director of the Antioch Writer’s Workshop and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. He is also a member of American MENSA, Sons of the American Legion, and the American Wine Society. He and his wife Sandy live in Naples, Florida, whence he commutes to teach at WSU. He and Sandy have two amazing kids, Kacey and Logan. Kacey is a Web designer; Logan is a student at WSU. The final member of the family is their 11-year-old Papillon, Scooter.
